A 37-year old man, John Gozie, has landed in trouble after he allegedly molested an 11-year old girl by inserting his fingers into her private part in order to satisfy his sexual desire in Lagos.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the alleged sexual assault on the victim happened at Odunsholu Street, Cement area of Lagos, where they reside.

The matter was reported to the Police in the area and he was arrested. Gozie was later transferred to the Gender Section of the Police Command for interrogation.

After thorough interrogation, the Police found him culpable. He was subsequently charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for statutory rape, which attracts several years of imprisonment if he is tried and found guilty before the Court.

However, the Court did not take his plea after the prosecutor, Supol  Akeem Rank, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice over jurisdiction.

Thus, the Presiding Chief Magistrate, Mrs. O.I. Adelaja, ordered his remand in correctional center pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice.

The Court also directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to the DPP for advice while the defendant will remain in custody pending the outcome of the DPP’s report, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not.
