Man, 37, Remanded For Absconding With Lady’s N3.4m School Fees

A lady, Tonia Okoye, has been swindled in Lagos State after she gave the sum of N3.45m to a man, Mosuro Hammed, to assist her pay school fees and he absconded with the money.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 18th April, 2024, at Ladoje Street, Oke-Odo area of Agege, Lagos.
According to the Police, the victim, who is a student, gave the money to the suspect, Hammed, to help her pay the school fees to an undisclosed school with trust that he would pay the money to the school.
However, after Hammed collected the money, he absconded to an unknown place and blocked every communication he had with the victim.
The matter was reported to the Police at Abbatior Division. The operatives moved into action, trailed the suspect, eventually arrested and detained him at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
During interrogation, Hammed  confessed and admitted to have collected the money to assist her to pay her school fees but diverted the money and spent it, as such had no money to refund the complainant.
The Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for conspiracy and diversion of funds.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubenije, granted him bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 3rd July, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
