A 37-year old man, Fatai Adegbesan, has been arrested in Lagos for allegedly smashing the head of his 70-year old mother, Alhaja Sidikat, as she slumped and died on the spot.

After investigation, the Police operatives at the SCID found him culpable over the alleged offence. He was then charged before the Ebute Metta Magistrates Court for murder.

The Court did not take his plea after the prosecutor, Inspector Orobosa Osagiede, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs A.O. Akinde, ordered his remand in Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town pending the outcome of DPP advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to the DPP.

The matter was adjourned till when the DPP’s report will be ready in order to determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court over jurisdiction.
