Man, 38, Docked For Battering Wife With Fist Blows During Brawl

A 38-year old man, Joshua Oke, has displayed his boxing skills on his wife, Adebisi Remilekun, in Lagos State by battering and inflicting injury on her with fist blows during a public brawl.

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Moriamo Street, Abaranje area of Ikotun, Lagos, where they reside.

 

He has been arrested and charged for the alleged assault against his legally married wife.

 

According to the Police, the man had a disagreement with his wife, which led to exchange of words and later degenerated to physical fighting between them.  During the fight, the man displayed his boxing prowess; rained punches on the victim and caused her serious bodily harm before she was eventually rescued.

 

Apart from inflicting injury on her, he reportedly posted her pictures on the social media causing fear and false alarm while she was receiving treatment in the hospital due to injuries she sustained during assault on her.

 

The matter was reported to the Police at Ikotun Division. The man was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation for causing such injury on his wife.

 

After interrogation, the Police found him culpable as he was not remorseful and he was charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged assault.

 

Part of the charges read:

“That you, Joshua Oke “M” on the 19/9/2024, at about 0700 hours at No. 7. Moriamo, Abaranje Ikotun, Lagos Magisterial District, did conduct yourself in a manner to cause breach of peace by behaving in a disorderly way  against one Adebisi Remilekun “F” your legally married wife, thereby an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 168 of the  Criminal law of Lagos State, 2015.”

 

“That you, Joshua oke “M” on the same date, time and place, did unlawfully assault one Adebisi Remilekun “F” with fist blows which caused her bodily harm, and hereby commited an offence punishable under Section 173 of the Lagos State Criminal Law 2015.”

 

“That you, Joshua Oke “M” on the 27/10/24 at about 1055 hours at  same time, place and date in the Lagos Magisterial District, did cause fear and alarm against one Adebisi Remilekun “F” your legally wife and posted her picture on social media and hereby commited an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 39 of the Lagos State Criminal Law 2015.”

 

He pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
