A 38-year old man, Akinwale Akinfolarin, who allegedly lured and engaged 17-year old girl in sex has landed in trouble in Lagos.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect was arrested and subsequently charged before the Court for defilement, which attracts life imprisonment if found guilty.

The incident happened at Rasaq Okunila Avenue, Ijegemo area of Lagos, where they reside.

The alleged defilement got exposed after the girl’s parents had looked for her and later discovered that the defendant had absconded with her on two different occasions and reported the matter to the Police for abduction and defilement.

He was then charged before the Ejigbo Magistrates Court on Friday on a three-count charge bordering on conduct likely to cause breach of public peace, abduction and defilement.

The plea of the defendant was not taken after the prosecutor, Supol Kenneth Asibor asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. E. O. Ogunkanmi, remanded him at the Correctional Centre and ordered that the case file be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.

The matter was adjourned till 23rd March 2021, for the DPP’s legal advice to be ready while the defendant will remain in custody pending the outcome of DPP’s advice, which will determine if the matter would be transferred to the High Court or not.

The prosecutor, Supol Asibor, had told the Court that the defendant committed the offence on January 9 and January 17, at No. 54, Rasaq Okunila Avenue, Ijegemo Road, Lagos.

He said that on 9th January 2021, the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by sexually harassing a 17-year old girl.
“However, on 17th January, 2021, the defendant abducted the said girl and kept her in his custody for a day without the consent of her parents. He defiled the girl by having sexual intercourse with her” Asibor said.
