Man, 40, Lands In Trouble For Engaging Girl, 16, In S*x Romp

A 40-year old man, Abayomi Shobiye, has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly luring and engaging a 16-year old girl in sex romp. 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Shobiye, has been arrested and charged for defilement under the Criminal Laws of Lagos State.

The incident happened at Saheed Olabode, Oluleye Bus Stop in Asolo area of Ikorodu, Lagos.

Trouble started after the victim’s parents got the information that the suspect slept with the victim and they went to the Police station in the area to report that he defiled their daughter, who is still a minor. He was then arrested and transferred to the Gender Section of the State Police Command for interrogation over his alleged conduct.

During interrogation, the suspect added that he actually slept with her but that it was with her consent as he did not force her. And as such, it was not rape or defilement as claimed by the Police.

However, the Police found him culpable because the victim is still a minor under the law and subsequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.

The Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned after the prosecutor, Inspector Lucky Ihiehie, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice because of the seriousness of the alleged offence.

Thus, the presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Layinka, ordered his remand in custody at the correctional centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.

The matter was adjourned till 6th May, 2024, for the report of the DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction
