Man, 42, Docked Over Sexual Assault & Defilement Of 2 Siblings

A 42-year old man, Chidi Kanu, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly sexually assaulting and defiling two siblings of same parents aged 5 and 7. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Akinwale Akinwunmi Street, Abule Egba, Lagos, where they reside.

 

According to the Police, the suspect defiled the younger victim by penetration while the elderly victim was sexually assaulted by kissing her without her consent.

 

According to the Police, the matter was exposed after one of the victims informed their mother about what happened and the matter was reported to the Police at Ipaja Division. The suspect was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.

 

The matter was subsequently transferred to the Gender Section of the State Police Command for further investigation.

The suspect was found culpable during the interrogation. Hence,  he was charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.

 

The charges read:

“That you, Chidi Kanu ‘m’, on the 2nd day of February 2025, at Akinwale Akinwunmi Street, Abule Egba Lagos, in the Lagos sterial District, did defile the victim ‘f 5years old by having unlawful carnal knowledge of her and thereby committed an punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos Nigeria, 2015.”

 

II:”That you, Chidi Kanu ‘m’, on the same date, time and the aforesaid Magisterial District, did sexually assault the victim ‘f 7years old by kissing her without her consent and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 263 of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015. ”

 

The Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice because of the seriousness of the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Chief Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, ordered his remand in custody at the correctional center pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP for legal advice.

 

The matter was adjourned for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
