Man, 42, Swindles Lady N.7m After Engaging Her In S*x With Marriage Proposal

A 42-year old man, Olarere Samuel, has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly swindling a 44-year old lady, Akwue Joy, to the tune of over N.7m and engaging her in sex severally under the false pretence of getting married to her, which turned out to be a scam.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened between October and 23rd November, 2023, at Taiwo Street, Egan area of Lagos.
Apart from engaging her in sex and obtaining money from the victim, the suspect, Samuel, reportedly used her name and pictures to open several accounts on Opay, Palmpay and Oxloan platforms, which he used to commit the alleged fraud.
The matter got exposed after the victim, Joy, discovered that he actually did not want to get married to her but only wanted to obtain her money having failed on his own part of their agreement for marriage. She then asked him to refund her money but he refused.
The matter was reported to the Police at Igando Division and the suspect, Samuel, was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After rounds of interrogation, he was found culpable for the alleged fraud.
He was subsequently charged before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
However, he pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Supol Benedict Aigbokhan, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. K.A. Ariyo, granted him bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.
The matter was adjourned till 4th December, 2023, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at correctional center in Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
