A 43-year old man, Afolabi Kosomo, has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly supplying the owner of DNA Club suspected adulterated 38 bottles of Don Julio 1942 drinks worth over N15m and they were later discovered to be fake.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect has been arrested and charged for his alleged conduct.
The incident happened between December, 2024 and January, 2025, at the DNA Club, located at Adetokunbo Ademola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.
According to the Police, the suspect had an agreement with the management of the club to supply the drinks worth the said amount, but he reportedly supplied adulterated drinks to the club.
However, trouble started after the customers discovered that the drinks were fake and complained to the management. The management later conducted further investigation and discovered that the drinks were adulterated.
The matter was reported to the Police at the Lagos State Command. The suspect was arrested and detained at the Command for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
The Police found him culpable after thorough interrogation and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.
The charge read:
“That you, AFOLABI KOSOMO ‘M’ between December, 2024 and January, 2025 in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by supplying suspected adulterated 38 bottles of Don Julio 1942,(750 ml) drinks valued N15,200,000.00 (Fifteen Million Two Hundred Thousand Naira) to DNA CLUB at No. 76, Adetokunbo Ademola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 168 and punishable under Section (1) (D) of the criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Philip Ademigbuji, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
