Man, 43, Remanded In Custody For Flogging Woman, 79, During Squabble

A 43-year old man, Ashiru Kabiru, has been arrested and charged for allegedly flogging a 79-year old woman, Mrs. Esther Amodu Layeni, during squabble in Lagos State. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Taiwo Street, Ejigbo area of Lagos, where they reside.

 

The cause of the quarrel between Kabiru and Mrs. Layeni was not disclosed by the Police, who alleged that he had on 8th August, 2024, used a stick to hit the victim on her head, hand and all over her body, which caused her life threatening injuries.

 

The residents, who saw what happened,  reported to the Police. The man was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct against the victim.

 

After interrogation, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged assault under the Criminal Laws of the State.

 

However, he pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu-Uthman, granted him bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned till 15th October, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
