Man, 44, Batters Female Police Inspector Over Attempt To Arrest Him

P.M.EXPRESS reports that Inspector Amarachi was brutally attacked with fist blows, beaten mercilessly and stabbed with a broken bottle by the suspect, Olalekan Adewole and she sustained serious injury before she was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The incident happened on 14th November, 2024, at Isheri Idimu, Lagos.

The matter was reported to the DPO, CSP Gladys Faniyi, who immediately mobilized other officers and the suspect was arrested and detained at the station for his alleged conduct.

He was charged before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for conduct likely to cause breach of public and assault occasional harm under the Criminal Laws of the State.

The charges read:

“That you, Olalekan Adewole ‘M’ on the 14th day of November, 2024 at about 1300 hrs. at Isheri Idimu in the Lagos magisterial district, did unlawfully assault one Inspector Itunuola Amarachi attached to Idimu Police station with intent to prevent the lawful arrest of an offender and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 174 (a) of criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”

Count II:”That you, Olalekan Adewole ‘M’ on the same date time and the aforementioned magisterial district, did unlawfully assault one Inspector Itunuola Amarachi ‘F’ by given fist blows on her face and caused her bodily harm and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 173 (b) of criminal laws of Lagos State.”

Count III: That you, Olalekan Adewole ‘M’ on the same date time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district, did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause the breach of the peace by using broken bottle to stab one Inspector Itunuola Amarachi and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 168 (d) of criminal laws of Lagos State 2015.”

He pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu-Uthman, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while address will be verified by the Court.

The matter was adjourned till 2nd December, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
