A 45-year-old man, Segun Omotosho, has landed in trouble after he attacked and beat his 42-year old wife, Olubukola Omotosho, to death over the wife’s school property, which he wanted to inherit.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened in Abeokuta, Ogun State, where the deceased owned a private school.
Police operatives from the Ogun State Police Command have arrested the suspect, detained him and he is undergoing interrogation over the alleged murder.
This was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer  SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed that the suspect was in custody following a complaint lodged at the Kemta Divisional Headquarters on 14th November, 2022, by the deceased wife’s elder sister.
SP Abimbola Oyeyemi stated that the late Olubukola was beaten and seriously injured by her husband, who later rushed her to the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, for medical attention but she died while receiving treatment due to injuries she sustained during the assault.
“Unknown to the husband, the deceased had sent a voice note to her family members, informing them that her husband had used a padlock to hit her on the head while beating her. And that if she dies, they should be aware that it was her husband that killed her,” the Police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, told newsmen on Monday.
SP Oyeyemi said that the husband fled immediately the voice note was played to his hearing having realized that his evil deed had been exposed.
“Upon the report and the recording evidence, the DPO of Kemta Division, CSP Adeniyi Adekunle, detailed his detectives to go after the husband and fish him out.
The suspect was subsequently traced to Akinseku village, Abeokuta, where he hibernated and he was promptly apprehended.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that their incessant quarrel was because the deceased built a private school in her name  and that of the husband. But the husband, who is a carpenter, had wanted to take over the control of the school, which the deceased, who was an NCE graduate refused,” Oyeyemi said.
This, he said, was the reason the suspect had always been beating his wife until the day “he used the iron padlock to hit her on the head, which eventually led to her death”.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has directed that the suspect be taken to the Homicide Section of the State CIID for further investigation and prosecution.
