Man, 47, Arrested For Posing As Police Officer To Steal iPhone 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 20th June, 2025, at Idimu LCDA.

According to the Police, the suspect accosted the complainant, presented himself as a Police Officer, stole the phone with intimidation and tried to escape before the complainant raised an alarm.

The suspect was apprehended by the Police on routine monitoring in the area and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.

While being interrogated, he admitted that he was not a Police officer while posing as such.

He was found culpable by the Police and charged before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.

The charges read:

COUNT I: “That you, Bolaji Folorunsho ‘M’ on the 20th day of June, 2025 at about 6:00am at Council Area, Idimu in the Lagos Magisterial District, did steal an iPhone 6X valued One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (N150,000) property of one Innocent Solomon ‘M’ of No. 1 Owokoniran Street, Idimu Lagos and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 280 of the criminal law of Lagos State 2015.”

COUNT II:”That you, Bolaji Folorunsho ‘M’ on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did falsely present yourself as a Police officer in order to intimidate and steal an iPhone 6X valued at One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (N150,000) and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 78 (B) of the criminal laws of Lagos State 2015.”

However, he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Supol Benedict Aigbokhan, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu-Uthman, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

The matter was adjourned till 23rd July, 2025, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
