Man, 58, Docked For Selling Expired Baby Milk To The Public

A 58-year old man, James Nwoko, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly selling expired baby milk (0-12 weeks) to members of the public and endangering the lives of children.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Nwoko, was arrested on 5th March, 2024, at Anifowose end of Awolowo Way, Ikeja, Lagos, where he displayed the expired milk for sale to members of the public.
The arrest followed intelligence information to the Police at the SCID Yaba over his conduct as he was monitored, eventually arrested and detained for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
The suspect, Nwoko, was alleged to bought the expired milk from undisclosed sources, altered the expiry date and was selling before the information leaked and he was arrested with the products recovered as exhibits.
After rounds of interrogation, the Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ebute Metta Magistrate Court for the alleged conspiracy and selling of expired baby milk, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
However, he pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Inspector Francisca Job, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Adedayo Tella, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment and addresses verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional centre pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
