A 60-year old man, Enefiok Okon Edem, has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly penetrating the private part of an 8-year old girl.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Keyamo Chambers. Anthony area of Lagos, where the victim resides with her parents.
According to the Police, the victim’s mother tried to bath her after the incident and discovered that she was feeling pain in her private part. When the mother asked her what happened, she said that one Baba came to their house and inserted his finger into her private part but she was able to identify the alleged Baba when seen.
Hence the matter was reported to the Police at the Gender Section of the Command. The suspect was arrested and detained at the Command for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After interrogation, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ebute Metta Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charge read:
“That you, Enefiok Okon Edem ‘m’, on the 16th of January 2025 at about 1500hours, at Keyamo Chambers. Anthony, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did assault and penetrated the vagina of the victim ‘f’ 8years old and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 261 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
However, the Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Supol Paul Ugorji, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.M. Ajayi, ordered his remand in custody at the correctional center pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP for legal advice.
The matter was adjourned for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
