A 60-year old man, Princewill Ihemeje, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly defiling his daughter for the last five years.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Aceland Street off Ailegun Road, Bucknor area of Ejigbo, Lagos, where the suspect, Ihemeje, resides with the daughter.
According to the Police, he started defiling the victim when she was 10 years old and continued till 2023 when she turned 15 before the victim exposed him.
The suspect was alleged to have warned the daughter not to tell anyone about it and had wanted to continue with the dastardly act. But when she was unable to bear the trauma, she revealed what had been happening to her.
Thus, the matter was reported to the Police and he was arrested and transferred to the Gender Section of the State Police Command for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After rounds of interrogation at the Gender Section, the Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, then asked the Court to give a date for mention for the DPP to give legal advice on the matter because of the nature of the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi, ordered his remand in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP’s legal advice and as well directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP for advice.
The matter was adjourned for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be made available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
