A 65-year old man, Idris Danladi, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly defiling his neighbour’s 12-month old baby.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 9th August, 2024, at the back of Customs Quarters, Seme Border, Badagry, Lagos.
He has been charged before the Badagry Magistrate Court for defilement under the Criminal Laws of the State.
The Presiding Chief Magistrate, Mr. Patrick Adekomaiya, ordered that Danladi should be remanded in the Awarjigoh Correctional Centre, Badagry, without an option bail after he denied and pleaded not guilty to the one count charge of defilement.
The prosecutor, Inspector Ayodele Adeosun, told the Court that Danladi committed the offence after he allegedly lured the victim and penetrated her private part before he was caught in the act.
The matter was then reported to the Police. He was arrested and detained for interrogation over his alleged conduct. He was found culpable after rounds of interrogation and then charged before the Court for the alleged offence.
The Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice on the alleged offence, which contravened the provisions of Sections 261 and 263 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
The matter was adjourned till 9th October, 2024, for the DPP’s report to be ready, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction..
