A 66-year old man, Joseph Oladepo and his accomplice, Ayosola Taiwo, 40,
have been arrested for allegedly using charms to threaten a Police Inspector, Ajiboye Rotimi, attached to Pen Cinema Division in order to evade arrest in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the purported charms may have failed them because  both were later arrested and charged before the Court for their alleged conduct.
The incident happened under the bridge at Pen-Cinema area of Agege, Lagos, where Inspector Rotimi went to serve invitation to a suspect, Ayosola Taiwo.
According to the Police, Inspector Rotimi went to serve the invitation letter to Taiwo over an undisclosed matter. When he got there and presented the letter to Taiwo, he collected and tore it on his face and eventually did not honour the invitation.
Knowing that he will not honour the invitation, the Police tried to effect his arrest and take him to the station for interrogation over the alleged offence against a complainant.
In the process, Oladepo brought out his charms and used them to make incantations on Inspector Rotimi in order to instill fear in him. The officer went back to the station, reinforced, arrested both of them and detained them at the station for interrogation over their alleged conduct.
After interrogation, the Police found them culpable and charged them before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.
The charges read:
“That you, Ayosola Taiwo, on 20th April, 2025 at about 12:00pm under the bridge at Pen-Cinema, Agege Lagos, in the Ikeja Magisterial district, did unlawfully tear to pieces a duly stamped and signed letter of invitation issued by the Police at Pen-Cinema Police Station, Agege Lagos, for you to report on a petition against you and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 123 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.”
COUNT II:” That you, Joseph Oladepo, on 11th May, 2025, at Pen-Cinema Police Station, Agege Lagos, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace by using charms to threaten one Inspr. Ajiboye Rotimi and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 168 (d) of Criminal Law of Lagos State.”
However, they pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Remilekun Atafo, asked Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted them bail with sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
