Operatives from the Lagos State Commissioner of Police Special Squad (2), have tracked a 32-year old man, Damilare Kehinde, who allegedly absconded with two iPhones Pro Max valued at N3m while pretending as a buyer at Computer Village, Ikeja.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that after successfully escaping with the phones, he sold it to a buyer, Okoro Collins Chinedu, who was also tracked and arrested by the Police.
Both suspects have been charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court and remanded in custody over their conduct.  While Kehinde was arraigned for allegedly conspiring and obtaining the phones under the false pretence of buying, Chinedu was charged for receiving stolen items under the Criminal Laws of the State.
The Police alleged the first defendant,  Kehinde to have contacted one Odutayo Oluwasegun, ordered for the phones and pretended that he had money to buy the phones
The phones were brought to him and he took the owner to the Zenith Bank hall at Awolowo Way within the Computer Village area and pretended that he wanted to transfer the money to the owner’s account.
However,  suddenly, Kehinde took to his heels and ran away. He escaped with the phones without any trace of getting him within the market and the matter was reported to the Police, who moved into action.
After Kehinde’s escape, he sold the phones to Chinedu at an undisclosed amount unknown to them that the Police were tracking them. They eventually arrested Chinedu and Kehinde and detained them at the Command for interrogation over their alleged conduct.
After rounds of interrogation,  the Police found them culpable and charged them before the Court for the alleged offence.
However,  they pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi, granted them bail on conditions and adjourned the matter for mention.
The Court ordered their remand in custody at the correctional centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
