Man Arraigned For Using Several Fake Bank Alerts To Buy N6.7m Items In Shop 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at the shop located at Muri Olefinde Street, off Fatimo Street, Ikotun area of Lagos.

According to the Police, the suspect went to the complainant and presented himself as one Anthony Agbo Ago, one of their customers, bought the items and paid with fake bank alerts.

However, when the complainant went to the bank, she discovered that all the bank alerts for the transactions did not reflect in her account as they were fake.

The matter was reported to the Police and the suspect was arrested. After interrogation and being found culpable, he was charged before the Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.

The charges read:

COUNT I: “That you, Awoyemi Opeyemi ‘m’, between the month of March 2025 till date at the shop at Muri Olefinde Street, Off Fatimo Street, Ikotun-Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause breach of the peace by sending different fake transaction receipts of banks, Opay Account Number-7050583077, Palmpay Bank Account Number-8069258264 and MoniePoint Bank Account Number-7050583077, that you have paid which you know fully to be false to one Adesoye Omlolara Abosede ‘f and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 168(d), of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.”

COUNT II: “That you, Awoyemi Opeyemí ‘m’, between same month, date ad place in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did with intent to defraud obtain shawarma bread, Hotdog, Chicken and Frozen Foods and Shawarma Ingredients to the tune of Six Million Seven Hundred Thousand Naira only, under the pretence of transferring the money to them through the bank, a presentation known to you that you did fake alert to Adeoye Omolara Abosede ‘f and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 313 and punishable under Section 314 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.”

COUNT III: “That you, Awoyemi Opeyemi ‘m’, between same month, date and place in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did steal the sum of Six Million Seven Hundred Thousand Naira Only, Property of one Adesoye Omolara Abosede ‘f and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 280 and punishable under Section 287 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.”

COUNT IV: “That you, Awoyemi Opeyemi ‘m’, between same month, date and place in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did unlawfully present yourself to One Adesoye Omolara Abosede ‘f and her Workers to be one Anthony Agbo Ago ‘m’ one of their customers which you fully know is false and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 380(1) of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.”

However, he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. T.A. Popoola, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
