Man Docked For Swindling Victim Of N11.5m Under False Pretence

A man, Jimi Adegunle, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly swindling a man, Hassan Shakiru Oladipupo, to tune of the sum of N11.5m under false pretence which turned out to be a scam. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened between September, 2024 and 24th February, 2025, at Awoyokun Street, Ilupeju, Lagos.

 

According to the Police,  the suspect obtained the money from the complainant under the false pretence of fixing his aluminium doors and windows.

 

However, after the suspect collected the money,  he bolted away, disconnected every communication he had with the complainant and went into hiding.

 

The matter was reported to the Police at Ilupeju Division. Police operatives moved into action, eventually arrested and detained the suspect for interrogation over his alleged conduct.

 

After interrogation, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.

 

The charges read:

“That you, Jimi Adegunle between September, 2024 and 24th February, 2025 at No. 31 Awoyokun Street Ilupeju, Lagos in the Lagos Magisterial District, did obtain the sum of Eleven Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N11,500,000.00) from Mr. Hassan Shakiru Oladipupo on the pretence of fixing his aluminium doors, and windows and thereby committed and offence punishable under Section 314 (1) b of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”

 

Count Il:” That you, Jimi Adegunle on same date time and place, in the aforementioned magistrerial district, did steal the sum of Eleven Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N11,500,000.00) property of one Hassan Shakiru Oladipupo and thereby committed an offence contrary and punishable under Section 287 of the criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”

 

However, he pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
