The 1-year old marriage between a couple, Mr. Peter and his wife, Titi, has collapsed after the husband filed a suit before the Court for the dissolution of their marriage because the wife allegedly brought ill luck to him and his business collapsed in Oyo State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, has dissolved the marriage because the husband told the Court that he was no longer interested in his union with the wife, Titi, on accounts of constant fight and domestic violence.
An embattled Mr. Peter told the Court that his relationship with Titi turned sour a year after they got married and he started facing challenges as his business nosedived and life became tough.
He explained that after his business collapsed, he fell sick and his wife neglected him when he was sick and almost at the point of death.
Peter told the Court that he no longer loved his wife and therefore, prayed the Court to dissolve the marriage.
“I lost my peace the day I brought Titi into my home as my wife” Peter said.
However, Titi told the Court that her husband was an ingrate and was a nobody when they met, but that her family made him by Introducing him to the transport business he is presently running, which is quite lucrative.
She said, “They also got him connected to the relevant people in the business and he started misbehaving when fortune smiled on him and later deserted her and their children three years ago”.
Titi also stated that Peter started encountering woes after they got married because he was attacked spiritually after he slept with another lady shortly before they got married.
“The lady in question brought the plaintiff ill luck” Titi said.
She refused that their marriage be dissolved pleading that she still loved him.
Peter, in his evidence, stated further,
“Titi and I met in the church, and we dated for a while before we got married in the same church we met. My wife was cultured and decent throughout the time we courted, but she changed immediately we got married”.
“Titi was always finding excuses to fight me. She refused that I enjoy our union.
My marriage to her brought me nothing but ill luck.
I began to experience a downturn in my finance a year into our marriage.
My business finally collapsed, and I was living from hand to mouth and buying things on credit.”
“I also suddenly fell sick and almost died. My wife showed no concern towards my woes and neglected me while I was on the sick bed. I told myself I was through with our marriage after I was fit.”
“My lord, there is no affection or love between my wife and I.
I have opted out of our marriage, and I am not going back.”
“I will give our children N25,000 per month for their upkeep and pay their school fees as and when due.“
Titi responded, “My husband is an ingrate. He was a nobody when we met, but my family showed him love and introduced him to the transport business, which was quite lucrative”.
“He started misbehaving and neglected his duties towards me and our children.
He started experiencing setback in his business after he was attacked spiritually by a lady he slept with shortly before we got married.”
“My husband accused me of being responsible for his misfortunes and took me from one prophet to another.
All these prophets exonerated me. He later left home three years ago and made me to cater for our children’s needs.”
“My lord, I still love my husband despite being unfair to me.
I therefore, pray this Honourable Court to save my marriage.”
The Court President, Mrs. S.M Akintayo, while giving her judgment, ruled that their marriage be dissolved.
According to her, the plaintiff had declared that he no longer loved the defendant and was no longer interested in their union.
Akintayo granted the defendant custody of their children and mandated the plaintiff to be responsible for their upkeep.
