A man, Jide Josiah Jisos, a.k.a “Professor Jisos”, has been sentenced to six months imprisonment after he was caught while attempting to write 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for his daughter.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that it was the judgment of the Chief Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, which found him guilty for impersonation and sentenced him accordingly.
The Presiding Chief Magistrate, Folashade Oyekan, delivered the judgement on 24th October, 2024, and convicted him for attempting to write the examination on behalf of his daughter.
The convict, Jisos, was apprehended by Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) officials at Brix Academy in Abuja while monitoring the UTME during the routine monitoring in the hall and handed him over to the Police for prosecution.
According to a statement by JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, he explained that the suspect, Jisos, falsely presented himself as a representative from a non-governmental organization (NGO) with intentions of overseeing the exam.
His actions raised suspicion and JAMB officials, after questioning him, handed him over to security personnel when he could not substantiate his affiliation with any NGO.
During interrogation, Jisos admitted his intentions while confessing that he had no genuine connection to any organization and did it solely to help his daughter with the exam.
His actions violated JAMB’s policies, which strictly prohibit impersonation and any form of exam malpractice
The Magistrate, Oyekan, sentenced Jisos to a six-month prison term, with an alternative option to pay a fine of N100,000.
This sentence, according to the court, is intended to uphold the integrity of the examination process and serve as a deterrent to others contemplating similar actions.
The case underscores JAMB’s commitment to maintaining exam standards with Dr. Benjamin reiterating the board’s zero-tolerance policy towards malpractice.
