Man Lands In Prison Over Pot of Soup

A 30-year old man, Ishola Thomas has landed in prison after he sneaked into an apartment early in the morning and stole a pot of soup and garri prepared by his neighbour, Mrs. Bisi Majekodumi.
The incident happened at Fashola Street, Okunola area of Egbeda, Lagos where both the suspect and the complainant resided.
The cost of the items Thomas stole was put at around N7,000. The police also recovered the soup, and other food items he stole and they were brought to the court as exhibit.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the suspect went to the victim’s kitchen, carried the pot of soup, turned it into the cooler he came with and also carted away garri, yam and plantain in a small bag.
However, while he was escaping the owner who was still awake saw him and raised alarm. The suspect who was infuriated by the alarm, carried a knife and threatened to kill her with it before other neighbours came to her rescue.
The matter was reported to the police who arrested and charged the suspect before a Lagos court for stealing and attempting to kill the complainant in the process.
However, he pleaded not guilty before Ejigbo Magistrates court where he was arraigned.
The presiding Magistrate, Mr. I.K.J. Layeni granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum. The matter was adjourned till 10 January, 2018.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that while Thomas were being taken to prison, he explained that he had computer training but could not get customers to patronise him.
He lamented how he had stayed several months without getting any job and could not raise any money to buy food.
Mrs. Majekodumi on her part said she was shocked when she saw Thomas around 2am and when she raised alarm, he wanted to kill her. She said he would have quietly stolen the items and not come into her apartment with knife when her husband was not around.
