A 32-year-old man, Sunday Ojekale, has landed in trouble after he went to Christ Apostolic Church and engaged a second woman in marriage  without terminating the first marriage.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that Ojekale was arrested and subsequently charged before the Oshogbo Magistrates Court for allegedly getting married to a second wife and threatening to kill his first wife.

The Police alleged that the suspect, Sunday, was dragged before the Court on three counts charge of unlawful marriage known as bigamy, threatening to kill and refusing to provide care for his children.

The Police prosecutor, Inspector Elisha Olusegun, said the defendant on 28th December, 2019, at Christ Apostolic Church, Oke-Onitea, Osogbo, having being married to one Funmilayo Oluwaseun Ojekale and while she was still alive and without the marriage being dissolved or declared void by a Court of competent jurisdiction, unlawfully got married to another woman, one Christiana Olujide.

The Police further alleged that the suspect threatened to kill his legal wife and failed to provide necessary things for his children without lawful excuse.
The prosecutor said that the offences were contrary to Sections 86, 339 and 370 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol.ll Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty.

The Counsel to the defendant, Mr. R. I Alebiosu, made an oral bail application assuring the Court that his client would provide reliable sureties.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. A. A. Adeyeba, declined the oral bail application, saying he should file a formal bail application.

Hence, the Magistrate, Mr. Adeyeba, ordered that the defendant be remanded in Ilesha Correctional Facility and adjourned the case until 23rd March, 2021, for hearing.
