Manager Sent To Prison For Allegedly Defrauding Female Importer Of N2.1m

A female importer of human artificial hair, Wendy Osigwe has dragged a man, Peter Idowu, who claimed to be a manager at Ebomid Filling Station at Eleko, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos before a Lagos Magistrate Court for allegedly obtaining the sum of N2.1m from her under false pretence.

The accused was arrested by the Police at the Maroko Division, Lekki, Lagos and arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate Court, Lagos on a two count charge of felony to with obtaining money under false pretense and stealing.

Police prosecutor, Sgt. Okete Ejima informed the Court in charge No H/60/2017 that the accused committed the offense on 15 June, 2016 at 25,Ilasan New Road, Lekki, Lagos.

Ejima told the Court that the Complainant reported to the Police that the accused told her that his father had handed over his filling Station, Ebomid Oil and Gas Filling Station in Ibeju-Lekki to him to manage and begged her to borrow him the sum of N2.1m to purchase fuel from the depot to sell and make profit with a promise to refund the money to her.

He said that the complainant further stated that she believed the accused because he was the son of her landlord and she thus borrowed him the sum of N2,150,000 which she was using to import human hair from Dubai to purchase the fuel.

Ejiima alleged that the complainant said that she was shocked that after she borrowed the accused the money, he started telling her different stories and failed to refund the money to her till date and in the process crippled her importation business.

Ejima said that the offenses the accused committed were punishable under sections 312 and 285 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2011.

The accused however pleaded not guilty to the charge in the open Court and Magistrate A.A Famobiwo admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N1million with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till 11 January 2018 for mention.

The defendant was however taken to Ikoyi Prison, Lagos pending when he fulfill the bail conditions.
