A 40-year old married man, Obinna Egbue, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly luring and defiling a 16-year old girl, which resulted in her getting pregnant.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened sometime in July, 2024 at Joseph Street, Majalad Isefun, Ayobo, Lagos.

According to the Police, the man lured the victim to his apartment, engaged her into the act and allowed her to go without his wife and the girl’s parents knowing what happened.

However, after some weeks, the girl’s body started changing which attracted the attention of her parents. A medical test was conducted on her by a Doctor, who confirmed that she was pregnant.

It was then that she told her parents that it was the married man, Obinna, who impregnated her.

The matter was reported to the Police at Ipaja Division. The man was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.

After interrogation, the Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.

The charge read:

“That you, Obinna Egbue ‘M’ sometime in the month of July, 2024 at about 2200hrs at Joseph Street, Majalad Isefun, Ayobo, Lagos in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did unlawfully defile the victim, 16, by having sexual intercourse with her, which resulted to her 25 weeks and six days old pregnancy without her consent and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

The Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned after the prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice because of the nature of the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, ordered his remand in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when the DPP’s report will be ready and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP for legal advice.

The matter was adjourned for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
