Married Man, 47, Faces Life Imprisonment Over S*x Romp With Girl, 14

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Amenger, has been arrested and charged for statutory rape, which attracts life imprisonment.

The incident happened on 23rd January, 2024, at Lone Street, Oworoshoki area of Lagos, where they reside.

The suspect was alleged to have lured the victim to an apartment, where he confused her with words of mouth, engaged her in sex and warned her not to tell anyone about it.

However, he was exposed after the victim informed her mother about what happened when they were not around and how the suspect sexually assaulted her.

The matter was reported to the Police in the area and he was arrested. He was later transferred to the Gender Section of the Command for interrogation over his alleged conduct.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted to have slept with her but insisted that it was a mutual agreement between them. The victim insisted that he actually lured her into the act without her consent.

However, the Police found him culpable because the victim is still a minor and consequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.

The Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice because of the nature of the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubenije, ordered his remand in custody at the correctional centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.

The matter was adjourned till 26th March, 2024, for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be ready, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
