Married Woman, 49, Commits Suicide Over Frustration

Tragedy struck on Sunday after the  Police found a 49-year old married woman, Mrs. Victoria Idowu, dead after hanging herself on a ceiling fan over frustration in the Magboro area of Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports as was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola.

SP Odutola disclosed that the son of the deceased raised the alarm after returning from a church service and found his mother reportedly hanged with a rope from the ceiling fan in her room.

She stated that upon receiving the report, Police officers from the Ibafo Division visited the scene, where the body of the deceased was found. When the room was searched, no suicide note was found.

Odutola stated, “According to the son, he came back from the church at about 1530 hours and discovered that his mother, one Mrs. Idowu Victoria, ‘F’, aged 49 years of the same address, had committed suicide by hanging herself on the ceiling fan inside her room”.

“The DPO immediately drafted men to the scene. No suicide note was found.”

The PPRO further stated that an investigation has commenced to unravel the circumstances behind the incident and the issue of frustration was not ruled out.

She urged members of the public to always provide support to their loved ones who may be suffering from mental health challenges.

“Meanwhile, the investigation is still ongoing to unravel the circumstances behind the sad incident. Suicide is unlawful. Sufferers of mental health need more support from family members to prevent such fatality,” she concluded.

The suicide by the 49-year old woman followed that of a 400-level female student of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, Adaze Jaja, reportedly committed suicide. The 31-year old Jaja died in a hotel room and was found lying unconscious and foaming at the mouth with an empty bottle of insecticide beside her.

The incidences of suicide may be on the increase owing to frustration as it has been reported in other areas across the States.
