Mayedero Cup Gets 8 April Kick Off Date In Lagos

The much awaited second edition of Mayedero Cup will kick off on 8 April, 2017 at Igando Palace playground, Alimosho, Lagos.

Chairman Organizing Committee, Prince Sulaiman Gbadamonsi told journalists in Lagos that this year’s edition will be better in terms of organization, officiating, adding that all the 16 teams will be given consolation prizes for taking part in the competition.

Gbadamonsi disclosed that they have contacted the Lagos State Referee Society and Lagos State Football Association to give them technical support to make the tournament a memorable one for the participants.

“Of course, we have started working to make sure that the Mayedero Cup attracts football clubs from various local governments in Lagos. We can only achieve that if we do the needful. Our sponsor, Chief Ikechukwu Madu has promised to support us to achieve our desired results. So we are urging all interested teams to come for their registration forms before the closing date,” he said.

Gbadamonsi revealed that all the teams are ready to take part in the draw ceremony scheduled to hold on Sunday, 2 April at the palace of Onigando of Igandoland, Alimosho, Lagos.

Among the teams that will take part in the tourney are Samjason FC, Spring Soccer Academy of Ajah, Bisi Yusuff FC, Mao FC, Okoloyun FC and IGFA.

Meanwhile, sports philanthropist, Chief Ikechukwu Madu has promised to increase the prize money to make the tourney competitive among the participating teams.

Gbadamonsi confirmed that the cup donor, Madu was ready to splash big amount of money to the winners and outstanding players that will distinguish themselves in the tournament.

He disclosed that the cup donor had promised to give out the sum of N150, 000 to be shared among the champions, first and second runners up.

“It is good news for the teams that will participate in this year’s edition because the cup donor has promised to increase the prize money and also give set of jerseys to the two finalists. It is going to be tough competition this year because many teams will like to give their best to reach the final stage,” he said.

Gbadamonsi, however, thanked the cup donor for his contribution to  football development in Lagos and urged the participating teams to play the game according to the rules and regulations. He wished all the teams best of luck in their outings.
