A 48-year old medical director, Dupe Ademuyiwa, has landed in trouble for allegedly embarking on an unlawful surgical operation, which caused the death of a 45-year old pregnant woman, Shakirat Akinade.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Ademuyiwa, has been arrested and charged for murder.
The incident happened on 23rd and 24th February, 2024, at the hospital owned by Ademuyiwa located at Koloko Olopometa, Ibadan, Oyo State.
The medical director, Ademuyiwa, whose residential address was not provided, was arraigned before the Iyaganku Magistrates Court in Ibadan for the alleged murder, which attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Oluwabusayo Osho, did not take her plea for want of jurisdiction and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the Oyo State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.
She said that the defendant should be kept at the Agodi correctional facility, Ibadan, pending the DPP’s advice which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
The Magistrate adjourned the matter till 23rd April, 2024, for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be available.
The prosecutor, Inspector Olalekan Adegbite, had told the Court that Ademuyiwa committed the offence on the deceased, late Shakirat Akinlade, by carrying out a surgical operation on her unlawfully and she died on the process.
Inspector Adegbite said that the offence contravened Section 316 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
