A motorcycle rider, Adeyemi Samuel, was arraigned at Magistrate Court 9 in Iyaganku on Friday for allegedly assaulting two officers of the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA).

The incident occurred at Apata, where Samuel was accused of physically attacking OYRTMA officers Aderoju Michael and Adedokun Olalekan.

According to a statement on Sunday, signed by the Chairman, OYRTMA, Major Adesagba Adekoya (rtd), Samuel had failed to park his red Boxer motorbike, with the number DDA 612 UT, at a designated park and refused to comply with the officers’ corrections.

He was subsequently apprehended and taken to the OYRTMA Omi Adio Command, and later he was arrested by the Nigerian Police Force, Apata Police Station for causing severe body injuries to the OYRTMA Officers.

The culprit was arraigned at the Iyaganku Magistrate court preceded by Magistrate Adeola (Mrs) at court 9 on three count charges of breach of public peace, resisting arrest and assault on officers.

Samuel was granted bail with two sureties, each required to provide N100,000, and must be gainfully employed.

The case was adjourned until April 23.

Major Adesagba Adekoya strongly condemned Samuel’s actions and expressed concerns over the increasing trend of motorists disobeying traffic laws and assaulting officers.

Adekoya emphasized the need for cooperation between the public and OYRTMA officers, who are working to ensure safe and orderly traffic flow in the state.

Adekoya also commended the Oyo State Government, led by Governor Seyi Makinde, for its efforts to improve traffic management and road safety in the state.

In another development, Adekoya led a joint team with the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources on an enforcement drive to areas such as Iwo Road, Iyana Church, and Ojaba.

The team focused on clearing vendors and traders selling on the road side, which had caused traffic congestion and environmental concerns.

Adekoya appealed to the people of Oyo State to support the government’s efforts to maintain a clean and orderly environment, emphasizing the importance of collective responsibility in achieving this goal.

The exercise demonstrated the state government’s commitment to addressing the challenges of urbanization and promoting sustainable development.
