In a resounding show of support for the fight against malaria in Nigeria, His Royal Highness AIG Bashir E. Makama Dabup III (psc+Rtd), the Mwo-Ywom of Garkawa, Plateau State and the revered head of the Ywom Traditional Council, has officially endorsed the Geneith Health Competition (GHC).
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the endorsement signifies a critical step in empowering the youth of his community to become active participants in the national movement aimed at eradicating malaria through education and advocacy.
In a press release which he personally signed in his palace, His Royal Highness expressed his enthusiasm for the GHC, highlighting the pressing need for collective action in combating malaria, which remains a significant public health challenge in Nigeria. He called on governments at all levels to lend their support to this vital initiative, emphasizing the importance of raising awareness about malaria prevention and treatment, especially among young people.
“The endorsement of the Geneith Health Competition represents not only a commitment to a noble cause but also a decisive action towards ensuring a healthier future for our community and the nation at large,” said His Royal Highness.
“Malaria is a preventable disease that continues to take a toll on our people. It is our collective responsibility to prioritize health initiatives and mobilize resources to create a malaria-free future.”
The Geneith Health Competition, organized by CEOAFRICA in collaboration with Geneith Pharmaceuticals Limited, aims to empower students from secondary and tertiary institutions across the country to become ambassadors for malaria awareness. The competition offers scholarships, substantial prizes, and various incentives valued at over ₦1 billion, reinforcing the importance of education and community involvement in this critical fight.
The endorsement by His Royal Highness is especially significant, as it reflects the commitment of the Garkawa community to enroll all students in the GHC, ensuring that they are equipped with the knowledge and tools needed to advocate for health and wellness. This initiative not only empowers students but also strengthens the communitys efforts in creating a healthier environment.
“The support for the Geneith Health Competition is growing, and we must capitalize on this momentum,” he added.
“I urge all levels of government, private organizations, and community leaders to come together and support this initiative. Our united efforts are essential in effectively combating malaria and safeguarding the health of our citizens.”
As the movement against malaria gains traction, the call to action by His Royal Highness resonates strongly, emphasizing the important role of traditional leadership in health advocacy. With the GHC focusing on education, advocacy, and community engagement, there is hope that an empowered generation will change the narrative surrounding malaria prevention in Nigeria.
As more leaders and organizations join the cause, the vision of a malaria-free community and nation is becoming increasingly attainable. The Garkawa District, under the leadership of His Royal Highness, stands as a committed participant in this vital initiative, setting a powerful example for others to follow.
