The President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Lagos State, Chief Solomon Ogbonna Aguene, has stated that he remains the Apex leader of Ndigbo in the State and related his battles with groups such as G50, Ndigbo in Lagos and others in order to keep Ohanaeze united.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that Chief Aguene stated this on the heels of claims by some disgruntled elements that he was chased away at the the stakeholders meeting held at Elder Ebute Ukiwe’s house during the visit of the factional President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu.
Chief Aguene clarified that he was officially invited for the meeting and was not chased away as some rumour mongers were spreading false information on what transpired at the meeting.
He stated: “When I got to Ebute Ukiwe’s house, they were about 17 persons seated at the meeting mainly members of a group known as Ndigbo in Lagos. I went there with 49 members of my entourage including the respected Eze Ndigbo Lagos State, Eze Christian Nwachukwu and other critical stakeholders but they refused to allow my members. I rejected their invitation to remain in the meeting and we left”, Aguene explained.
Chief Aguene said that he was not surprised because they felt intimidated on his massive followership and the people in the meeting were members of Ndigbo in Lagos, who had tried in vain to make Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State to be under them and he insisted that Ohanaeze cannot be under any other organization.
“What happened was that I had refused to be the deputy to General Umahi’s group called ‘Ndigbo Lagos’, because Ohanaeze Ndigbo can’t be under any other organization. I was the person that helped to organize them and brought them under the Ohanaeze Ndigbo platform.”
He recalled that in the past, the group had always forced past Ohanaeze Presidents to be the Deputy to the Chairman of Ndigbo in Lagos, but it was Chief Aguene and Chief Fabian Onwuhalu that had refused to be in the group as Deputy because they have nothing to offer Ndigbo in Lagos State.
“Let them come out with the positive outcome and benefits of the meeting they held at Elder Ebute Ukiwe’s house for the benefit of Ndigbo.”Nothing!”, he emphatically said.
On another group known as G50, Aguene recounted his ugly experiences with the former General Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State, Chief Evaristus Ozonweke, who had approached him to collapse Ohanaeze Ndigbo into his G50 group and become their Coordinator.
He stated that he refused because Ohanaeze Ndigbo is the parent body of every Igbo organization and cannot be collapsed into any union and he has made very clear to all the Igbo groups.
He revealed that the G50 has since collapsed after the general elections and their leaders are in disarray looking for relevance by trying to create factions and he was not surprised over their gang up against him as the President of Ohanaeze.
However, Chief Aguene insisted that he is the authentic recognized Leader, hence Chief Sunday Ossai is running an illegal faction because of the Court Consent Judgement extending his tenure.
Chief Aguene assured that he is open to any reasonable discussion with two factions of Ohanaeze Ndigbo National body to achieve peace in Lagos State chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo. He however, insisted that he remains the authentic recognized Leader in Lagos State.
