Posted on April 12, 2025

The National Association of Nigerian Students has commended Senator Solomon Adeola Olamilekan Yayi, the Distinguished Lawmaker representing Ogun West Senatorial District, for his outstanding initiative in empowering over 5,000 farmers in his constituency with agricultural equipment, training, and financial support.

In a statement signed by Samson Ajasa Adeyemi, National Public Relations Officer, NANS said, “This remarkable programme is a testament to Senator Yayi’s commitment to addressing food security challenges and improving the welfare of his constituents”.

“The empowerment programme, which included the distribution of modern farming tools such as tractors, power tillers, water pumps, sprayers, and improved seedlings, is a strategic investment in the agricultural sector.”

“Farmers were also trained in modern agricultural practices to enhance productivity and sustainability. Additionally, each farmer received a cash grant of ₦100,000 to support their farming activities and reduce financial pressures.”

“This initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s food security strategy and President Bola Tinubu’s vision of achieving multiple planting seasons annually.”

“By equipping farmers with the necessary tools and knowledge, Senator Yayi has not only boosted agricultural productivity but also contributed to reducing food inflation, which has seen a significant decline in recent months.”

“For Nigerian students, the impact of this programme cannot be overstated. A stable and secure food supply directly affects the well-being of students, many of whom face financial challenges that make access to nutritious meals difficult.”

“By empowering farmers and increasing food production, this initiative helps to make food more affordable and accessible, thereby improving the quality of life for students and their families.”

“Furthermore, NANS recognises the potential of this programme to inspire youth participation in agriculture. With the provision of modern equipment and training, agriculture is being repositioned as a viable and rewarding career path for young Nigerians.”

“This is particularly significant in addressing unemployment and creating sustainable livelihoods for the youth.”

“NANS calls on other leaders across the nation to emulate Senator Yayi’s exemplary dedication to the welfare of his constituents and the development of the agricultural sector.”

“We also urge the Federal Government and relevant stakeholders to continue supporting initiatives that prioritise food security and youth empowerment.”

“As the voice of Nigerian students, NANS remains committed to advocating for policies and programmes that enhance the welfare of students and contribute to the sustainable development of our nation.”

“We celebrate Senator Yayi’s achievements and look forward to seeing the positive impact of this empowerment programme on Ogun West and beyond.”
