New Dawn In Ojodu LCDA

Posted on April 11, 2022

The dews of socioeconomic development have begun to crystallize in Ojodu LCDA and environs has the administration of Hon. Segun Odunmbaku solidify  and materialize its promises of  innovative and dynamic model of governance that would elevate and improve the lives of Ojodu residents. Most of us who campaigned assiduously and relentlessly while canvassing actively and zealously for young technocrats at the helms of affairs in our local government have been vindicated and substantiated as monumental change in the sociopolitical terrain and socioeconomic status of the local government begins to manifest.

In Yorubaland as predicated by our forefathers who have an analogy that compares the periods of daytime with age grade, dawn is characterized as youthful, midday as middle age and the evening as elderly, they further went on metaphorically to compare dawn as the beginning of an era and epoch so it was symbolic and idyllic that the new administration of Harvard trained Hon. Segun Odunmbaku at its first budget presentation in the newly constructed and commissioned legislative building tagged the budget and has encapsulated by the Honourable Chairman himself that “a new dawn has begun”.

Yes it has begun, as it was evident and prevalent in the transformation going on in the governance process, be it appointment into offices or handling of projects, interactions with the electorates and residents or engagement with the private sector. It was clear as daylight that a breath of fresh air and inception of a new order has begun, the election of an equally competent and young leader of the House- the legislative branch of the administration, Hon. Opeyemi Apatira, a tech savvy, web and app  creator emerged the leader of the councillors and saddled with leading the legislators in making relevant laws and performing oversight functions on aspects of governance that would foster innovative development was a pointer and harbinger to the fact that this administration would be led by and advocate for young leaders who are equally competent and talented to run the council’s affairs.

Still basking in the euphoria of being blessed by a youthful Harvard trained administrator as Chairman and young  tech savvy Leader of the House whilst thanking God for providence when the Omnipotent #AbleGod bestowed us with another young, astute and accomplished political technocrat, Honourable Olaide John Bello as Secretary to the Local Government, it has been celebration galore and joie de vivre since the announcement of the appointment especially amongst the young demography and party leaders who contributed in no small measure to the paradigm shift.

The import of the emergence of these young, vibrant technocrats in occupying such sensitive positions in the local council at these times of recent youth restiveness and activism, economic challenges occasioned by a global recession and pandemic as well as rising insecurity issues in the country is of great significance as these times require the dynamism and creativity of innovative governance to navigate and chart a new path to local government administration that would grapple with and surmount present challenges while transforming Ojodu LCDA into the modern and model local council comparable with global standards of quality governance.

I have always posited that the compass and engine room of an administration is it’s Secretary to the Government and having Honourable Olaide John Bello “Starboy” has we fondly call him as the scribe of the council has put paid to the notion that this is a dynamic government that would be full of zest, vivacity and enterprise.

Ojodu LCDA has never had it this good and we celebrate this tripartite combination of eminently qualified and accomplished young personalities administering our affairs at the council while we look forward to scalable positive outcomes such as we have been witnessing and experiencing since the advent of the Hon. Segun Odunmbaku administration through innovative policy making and  intentional implementation of the H.E.Y.S Agenda which has been garnering admiration and commendation amongst State Government officials and Non- Governmental Organizations for it’s well planned, home-grown and execution model.

The administration which had hit the ground running by renovating and revamping health centers like Apata PHC, reconstructing and rehabilitating roads like Ayo Alabi,Oyatogun and Mokuolu streets, equipping and enhancing schools with books and furniture to seven primary schools, desilting  and decontamination of the environment especially in public facilities like schools, health and vocational centers while empowering and improving the lives of residents through various welfare packages.

Furthermore, the Chairman has donated vehicles and communication gadgets to the Police for

adequate security of lives and property while appointing a prominent youth, Akinola Williams as the Chief Security Officer of the LCDA for community led response to security prevention, has budgeted for renewable energy to  create more clean energy options for our public facilities and to reduce overhead costs, turn our vocational training centers to latest tech and creative sector training hubs with global standards to churn out manpower with globally relevant skills, collaborate with the State Government and private sector to increase fiber optic penetration  and partnering with NGOs to mitigate against climate change.

These are indicators and benchmarks for quality governance at the local government level of administration and signal of commitment to create a conducive and inclusive environment for livelihoods to thrive through investments in health, education, youth and women empowerment, social and infrastructural development ( H.E.Y.S) Agenda while streamlining governance and leveraging technology to foster development and collaborate with the private sector and development partners to bring about sustainable socioeconomic development for the good people of Ojodu LCDA.
