NFVCB Warns Against Unauthorized Premiere Of Unclassified Film “Living In Colors”

The National Film and Video Censors Board, NFVCB, has raised alarm over an unauthorized media event and planned premiere of a film titled “Living In Colors” scheduled to hold this weekend at a cinema facility in Lagos.

In a statement, the Board said its attention was drawn to a promotional poster and trailer circulating across media channels for the event tagged “Media Press Call and Movie Premiere of ‘Living in Colors’.

According to the NFVCB, preliminary investigations indicate that the trailer depicts explicit content and promotes themes that have not been approved for public exhibition in Nigeria.

The Board stated categorically that the film has “neither been submitted, vetted, nor classified by the NFVCB,” making any public exhibition or promotion illegal under Nigerian law.

“Consequently, the Board is collaborating with federal and state security agencies to track down, disrupt, and halt the planned press call and premiere event at the designated venue,” the statement read.

The NFVCB said it has contacted the management of the exhibition center and venue providers.

The Board warned that hosting an unclassified film constitutes a direct breach of digital and theatrical content laws.

It added that such a breach “will result in the immediate sealing of the facility and revocation of operational licenses.”

The Board also disclosed that legal proceedings are being initiated against the production company, as well as the individual producers and promoters involved.

It cited the NFVCB Act and the Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act, stating that it remains a criminal offense to make a public show or distribution of unclassified or legally prohibited content.

The NFVCB reiterated its commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s moral, cultural, and constitutional values in film and video content.

“Content creators, cinema operators, and media distribution platforms are strongly advised to desist from aiding the promotion of this unlawful work or face the full wrath of the law,” the Board said.

The Board copied the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria, CEAN, the Film Distributors Association of Nigeria, and the Nigeria Police Force – National Cybercrime Center.

The Board urged members of the public to report any information regarding the planned screening to relevant authorities.
