NGOs Against Corruption Endorse Buhari For Second Term

Posted on November 27, 2018
President Muhammadu Buhari’s bid for second term in office just got a boost with his unanimous endorsement by NGOs Against Corruption (NAC), a coalition of civil society groups fighting corruption in Nigeria.
Rising from an Annual Regional Meeting today at the Concord Hotel, Owerri, Imo State, the group said they were endorsing the President, so he could consolidate on the fight against corruption.
According to a communique read to the media after the meeting, the emergence of another individual at this stage when the war against corruption is on will take the nation several steps backward.
The chairman of the group, Chief Harris Chuma says: “Having identified that corruption is our biggest headache in Nigeria, there is need for the fight against corruption to be sustained; there is no other option at this stage of our development than continuing. Currently, we are massively mobilizing for Buhari’s re-election with special focus on South East and South South zones. This is borne out of our dire belief that President Muhammadu Buhari has achieved a lot in terms of plugging wastages via corruption, which had hitherto stunted the economic growth of Nigeria. It is also our hope that by the time he, completes the next term, Nigeria will no longer be regarded as being ‘fantastically corrupt’”.
Enumerating the President’s giant strides in the war against corruption, the group cited the massive recoveries of monies and properties by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC as well as the various awards by the President as evidence that he means to kill corruption in Nigeria.
“In the history of Nigeria, no President has dedicated so much energy to killing corruption like President Muhammadu Buhari, and this is evident in the volume of recoveries that has been made so far in terms of cash and properties, many convictions and harvest of prosecutions going on. It is novel and we as members of NAC, want more recoveries to be made from those who have plundered our commonwealth. This can only be achieved if we give the President our votes again. The giant strides of this government is evident in the number of awards the President has won in the world for his efforts in fighting corruption”.
“Our group have equally, played a vital role in supporting Mr President’s resolve to end corruption in Nigeria. We have partnered with the EFCC severally in the area of anti-corruption   awareness and sensitization campaigns, and are poised at mobilising a broader band of citizens to take action against corruption” Chief Chuma said.
