Nigeria Women’s Football League MVP Janet Akekoromowei Scores In Opening Game Of The New Year

Matchday 5 of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership produced a mix of narrow wins, commanding performances, and hard-fought draws across various centres nationwide, highlighting the league’s growing competitiveness.

In Uyo, Bayelsa Queens secured a 2–1 away win over Ibom Angels in Uyo. First-half goals from Kesiena Ojiyovwi and
Janet Akekeromowei gave the visitors control, while Helen David pulled one back for Ibom Angels in the 59th minute, though it was not enough to change the outcome.

In Lagos, FC Robo Queens secured a crucial 1–0 victory over Ahudiyannem Queens, thanks to an early strike from Opeyemi Ajakaiye in the opening minute. The goal proved decisive as Robo held firm for all three points.

At Iyamho, Osun Babes edged Confluence Queens 1–0, with Naimot Kazeem’s 62nd-minute finish separating both sides in a closely contested encounter.

Rivers Angels delivered one of the standout performances of the day in Makwada, cruising to a 3–0 away win against Adamawa Queens. Abasiofon Uwah was the star of the match, scoring a second-half hat-trick in the 56th, 63rd, and 81st minutes.

In Ikenne, Nasarawa Amazons claimed a vital away victory over Remo Stars Ladies, with Ayatsea Hembafan scoring the match-winning goal just 11 minutes into the game.

Abia Angels impressed at home in Aba, recording a comfortable 2–0 win against Sunshine Queens. Ekezie Onyedikachi opened the scoring in first-half stoppage time, while Winner David sealed the victory in the 76th minute.

Delta Queens also maintained their strong home form in Asaba, defeating Dannaz Ladies 2–0. Amarachukwu Onuorah struck in the 29th minute before Rita Tsebe added a late goal deep into stoppage time.

In Abeokuta, Ekiti Queens edged Naija Ratels FC 1–0, with Ismail Zainab’s 73rd-minute strike earning maximum points for the hosts.
