A night security guard, Lawal Taye, has landed in trouble after he reportedly caught a thief at night with a stolen iPhone worth N350,000 which he in turn gifted to his lover while handing the thief over to the Police at Ilasamaja Division in Lagos State.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the thief, Ahmed Raymond, informed the Police that the security guard, Taye, recovered the phone he stole from one Balogun Idris and did not present it to the Police as exhibit.
When Taye was contacted by the Police, he denied that he recovered such phone from Raymon and presented another small phone as what he recovered.

Unknown to him, the owner of the phone was contacted, which prompted the Police to track the phone and it was traced to Taye’s girlfriend.

During interrogation, the lady claimed that the phone was bought for her by Taye and she was taken to the Police Station, where Taye was invited to and shown the phone and he was speechless.

Having been found culpable, he was subsequently charged before the Isolo Magistrates Court for stealing.
He pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Mr. Oje Uagbale, asked the Court to give short adjournment since Taye pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually stole the phone.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. A. Akokhia, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He was remanded in the correctional centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions while the matter was adjourned till 13th October, 2021, for trial.
