NIN-SIM Linkage: NCC Grants Extension Till 31 July

Posted on April 6, 2024

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced that the National Identification Number (NIN) of subscribers with multiple lines in the third phase of disconnection, now has until 31 July 2024 to validate their lines.

There has been an extension from the earlier published date of 15 April 2024.

The disconnection process, which started in February, was initiated in three stages. The first occurred on February 28, 2024, for subscribers who did not submit their NIN on or before February 28, 2024. This was followed by a second round of disconnection regarding subscribers on Friday, March 29, 2024. with five or more lines connected to an unverified NIN.

The third step is to block registrants with fewer than five lines associated with an invalid NIN. These lines must be terminated on or before April 15, 2024.

The telecommunication regulatory body, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), through its Director of Public Affairs, Reuben Muoka, disclosed that the extension of the date became necessary based on the presentation of their NIN, but this has not yet been verified.

“Registrants in this category who declare their NIN and have no more than four lines are allowed. Unlike those who have never had a NIN, their NIN is not checked.

“So, we decided to give them more time,” Muoka denied.

The Director appealed to subscribers to complete the NIN-SIM linkage as soon as possible as it will help the federal government deal with insecurity in the country.
