No Oloja of Lagos Yet, Kosoko Royal Family Declares, Warns Against False Claims

The King Kosoko Royal Family has distanced itself from claims that anyone has been installed as the Oloja of Lagos, declaring that the traditional stool remains vacant and warning members of the public against recognising or dealing with anyone presenting himself in that capacity.

In a public notice issued by the family, the Head of the King Kosoko Royal Family, Alhaja Chief Mutiat Abimbola Ashabi Alli-Balogun, said the family’s attention had been drawn to a photograph and inscription allegedly portraying an individual as the Oloja of Lagos.

The family categorically rejected the claim, stating, “We wish to categorically state that no one has been installed as Oloja of Lagos and as such no one can parade himself as such.”

According to the notice, the succession process for the traditional stool is still pending and remains subject to legal and customary procedures.

The statement explained that “the vacant stool of the Oloja of Lagos is currently before a court of competent jurisdiction, and subject to the applicable customary, traditional, and governmental processes.”

The family specifically called on Prince Abiola Olojo-Kosoko to refrain from presenting himself as the Oloja of Lagos, insisting that no individual has been crowned or installed into the position.

It stated, “Therefore, Prince Abiola Olojo-Kosoko should desist from the deceptive act of parading himself as the Oloja of Lagos, as no individual has been capped or installed as the Oloja of Lagos.”

Beyond the Oloja stool dispute, the King Kosoko Royal Family also cautioned government agencies, financial institutions, corporate organisations and the general public against recognising any person claiming to represent the family without proper authorisation.

The notice stressed that “no individual has been authorised by the Head of the Kosoko Royal Family to represent the family or act on its behalf in respect of any family property, assets, transactions, negotiations, or any other family affairs, except with the express written authority of the Head of the Family.”

The public notice also described the circulated publication portraying an individual as the Oloja of Lagos as false, prominently displaying the inscription, “Let the public know: This is fake.”

The family urged the public to exercise caution and rely only on official communications issued by the Head of the King Kosoko Royal Family regarding matters relating to the Oloja of Lagos stool and the affairs of the royal family.

The notice was signed by Alhaja Chief Mutiat Abimbola Ashabi Alli-Balogun, Head of the King Kosoko Royal Family, while enquiries were directed to the family’s legal representative, Barrister Tokunbo King of King & Co. Barristers & Solicitors.
