Posted on December 2, 2019

Prominent Lagos monarch, Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi, the Elegushi of Ikate Kingdom, has advised the government and other stakeholders in the education sector to invest more in technical education, noting that it is one of the panaceas towards addressing unemployment in the country.
Oba Elegushi made the call weekend while addressing newsmen at the Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State.

He noted that there is a huge gap for skilled workers across all strata of the economy and this is being filled by national from neighbouring countries.

The Lagos monarch stated that unless there is more investment in institutions where the youths can learn this skills, we won’t be making progress in addressing the scourge of unemployment.

Oba Elegushi, who was honoured with an honorary doctorate degree in Public Administration by the university, praised the effort of the founder and chancellor, Sir Gabriel Igbinedion, applauding his vision that charted the course for other private universities.

“It is my first time of entering this university and with what I have seen here, I think it is appropriate that I thank the founder and Chancellor, Sir Gabriel Igbinedion, on behalf of the thousands of lives that have been moulded at this citadel and to the many other institutions that have come after you, following your vision, 20 years ago,” Elegushi stated.

The monarch also use the occasion to call on the federal government and the academic staff unions to resolve issues amicably in the interest of the students, calling on both parties to put the life and future of the students first.

The highlight of the convocation ceremony was the conferment of an honorary degree on Oba Elegushi, former President Goodluck Jonathan, Entertainment star, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde and Mr Sow Agba from Togo.
