Obasanjo, Obi Cubana, Ita-Giwa, Other Dignitaries Storm Igbo Day In Lagos State In Grand Style

It was an electrifying ambiance amid pomp and pageantry as the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Lagos State, led by the amiable President, Chief Solomon Ogbonna Aguene, honoured the former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, hospitality guru, Chief Obinna Iyiegbu popularly know as Obi Cubana , former Senator Florence Ita Giwa and many other personalities from all walks of life.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the event, which took place at the Police College in Ikeja, Lagos, was attended by highly placed dignatries both from within and outside Lagos State to honour the late Adekunle Fajuiyi who paid the supreme price for the sake of an Igbo man, the former Head of State, late General Johnson Aguiyi Ironsi.


The event was packed with several rewards to prominent Igbo, who have performed creditably well in various fields.
An excited Chief Obasanjo expressed his joy in the presence of the massive crowd, who had come to celebrate with him and others, as he commended the Igbo for being industrious and having contributed to the economic well being of the society.


In response, Chief Aguene stated that the former President, Obasanjo, has always identified with Igbo people and assisted many in their economic well being hence the Igbo used the occasion to thank OBJ for his love and kindness to the Igbo over the years.

Chief Aguene recalled when OBJ, as President, visited Tokyo in Japan and facilitated the release of many Igbo people languishing in various prisons and brought them back to Nigeria.

On Obi Cubana, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo leader described him as a typical Igbo man, who is connected to the people through his kindness and love to the less privileged people in the society.

Obi Cuban on his part advised Igbo people, who are wealthy to be their brothers keeper, stressing a little help can uplift some people from poverty level. He reiterated his commitment to assist Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State anytime his attention is needed.

Those also honoured included former Super Eagles coach, Bonfire Jo, Chief Chidi Anyaegbu ( MD, Chisco Motors) CEO Of Cubana Group (Obi Cubana) Aki and Pawpaw, the former chairman of Maritime Industry, High Chief Lawrence Uba, was equally honoured with Award of Excellence, for registering Maritime industry in Ohanaeze in Lagos State and many others.

The event climaxed with various Igbo traditional dances and display of masquerades from Igbo land..

The Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, was represented by Chief Joe Igbokwe, who read the Governor’s goodwill message. He thanked the Igbo people living in the State for their contributions to the economy of Lagos State.

The  Igbo traditional rulers known as Ezendigbo led by their chairman, Eze Chris Offia, were fully represented including the chairmen and members of Ohanaeze across the 20 Local Governments and 37 LCDAs.
