Ogene Ogbunike To Celebrate New Yam Festival On 9th September

The founder of the frontline Ogbunike socio-cultural group, known as Team Make Ogbunike Great (TMOG), Ogbuefi Dr. Chuma-Odili Harris Udokamma, FCMsp a.k.a Ogene Ogbunike, has announced that he will celebrate this year’s new yam festival on 9th September, 2023. 

 

Speaking to reporters at his country home, Azu Ogbunike, penultimate week, Ogene said that the people of Ogbunike had long waited for the date of Ogene’s new yam celebration, largely due to the frenzy associated with it.

 

“You see, the very day I was conferred “Ogene Ogbunike na ara onu”, I voluntarily took up the responsibility of promoting the culture and tradition of Ogbunike. This, I have done for years now. This is not the first time Ogene will be celebrating New Yam festival in Ogbunike, and certainly will not be the last. “Iwa-ji” is an annual traditional event that we observe to promote the culture and tradition of Ogbunike. It brings us together as a community to celebrate and also brainstorm on way forward of our community.

“This years “iwa ji” will be quite an exciting time, as Team Make Ogbunike Great (TMOG) will celebrate and honour individuals, who have distinguished themselves in their chosen field of endeavours and have contributed greatly to the development of Ogbunike town. It is the prestigious “Cultural Ambassadors Awards” given in special recognition for extraordinary and exemplary service to Ogbunike community, and also for propagating the advancement of Ogbunike cultural heritage and norms.”

“The new yam festival is celebrated to foster the spirit of brotherhood, co-operation, economic prosperity, and cultural heritage among the people of Ogbunike all over the world” Ogene said

According to Ogene Ogbunike, TMOG believed that it was high time ndi Ogbunike stood up again using human and natural resources for the common purpose of bringing long overdue development, due recognition, due respect, and much needed unity to the town.

Expected to attend the festival are Members of the Traditional Council of Ndichie/Ogbuefi Ogbunike, Members of the Traditional Council of Ndi Nze/Ozo Ogbunike, Traditional Council of Ndi Akajiofo/Ezeani/Ezemuo, Clergy, Umuada, ndi Uyom, Elders and Youths of Ogbunike. Akajiofo Ndigbo-Eze Ofo na Nri, Traditional rulers, top government officials, political big wigs, dozens of journalists, media influencers, Nollywood stars, friends and well wishers.

The “Iwa ji” festival will take place at the ancient Umuru Village Square (ilo mgbago), Azu Ogbunike. The TMOG have disclosed that the people of Ogbunike would witness another exciting moment during the festival.
