Ogun West: A Day Of The Unprecedented In A Period Of New Politics
It was the very first of its kind, it was unprecedented. Not only from the people of Ogun West to any of their aspirants that has ever chosen to represent them. It was also the very first as a gesture of unflinching support received by the beneficiary, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi). It was the buying and presentation of Expression of Interest and Nomination forms by the cream de la cream of Ogun West leaders to Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), who is aspiring to represent Ogun West at the Senate. Leaders, political stalwarts, sons and daughters of the land, 70 of them came together to purchase the forms for their son. It was a never before seen way of passing a strong message to the electorates that Senator Adeola is their aspirant for Ogun West Senate seat, in whom they are well pleased.
Why not, the Ilaro born Senator is aspiring from quite a number of vantage positions that if he is elected for a return to the Senate would raise the bar of the gains from that seat for the people of Ogun West. He is a ranking Senator, which matters a lot at the Red Chamber. He will be returning as a third timer to the Senate, which means he has been established in the National Assembly; he could get a very strong principal position for Ogun West and Ogun State in the next assembly. It is the very first time the people of Ogun West are looking beyond just paper qualifications and the desire to occupy political office to concentrate on the edges that Senator Adeola has over other aspirants who are equally good for the position so that the senatorial district can raise her democratic dividends and maximize other advantages.
Clearly, there is a change in Ogun West politics. There is a new beginning. The politics and the practice have taken a new dimension. Thoughts are becoming unidirectional, moves are becoming development-centred. Propaganda and blackmailing are no longer affecting critical decisions on how to position the district for the much needed accelerated development. Reality is now being faced.
Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola betrayed emotion after the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms were delivered into his hands by his people. Why? He was a man, whose return to his root, Ogun West met with blackmailing, propaganda and other sorts of attacks and badmouthing. His move that has now been accepted by the majority was met with a well sustained waves of resistance. He confessed that he was on the verge of quitting his planned return to Ogun State and Ogun West to practice politics because of the lies and all. For the people of same Yewa Awori land to now accepted him and for the leaders of the same land where he met very stiff opposition and rejection to be the ones buying him the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms was a move he did not dream would ever happened. It was the reason the tears flowed for joy during a very emotional acceptance speech.
He is a veteran of many political battles and he has been victorious in all but during preparation for all the elections that he has contested and won, five of them. He had never received the kind of gesture of support that the leaders and the people of Ogun West extended to him. Of course it was the first time leaders of Ogun West would do that for any aspirant. There is a change in the air in Ogun West politics. If sustained, this new politics would lead to the fulfillment of other political dreams of Yewa Aworis.
During the presentation of the forms to Senator Adeola, a leader in the district, Chief Mrs Matilda Apampa described Senator Adeola as the Moses of Ogun West that should be supported for his clout that had stopped the political bullying of the senatorial district. She went further describing the return home of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola as God’s appointed time.
It is a period of new politics in Ogun West with Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola as the symbol of the new beginning. The sustenance of this never before seen change will definitely usher in better democratic dividends and greater visibility in Ogun State and national politics for Ogun West Senatorial District.
