Okeowo Vows To Revive Sports In Ajeromi/Ifelodun LCDA In Lagos

The Executive Chairman of the Ajeromi/ Ifelodun Local Council Development Area, Honourable Olufemi Akanbi Okeowo, has vowed to revive and indeed uplift sports in the local Council known all over Nigeria as the cradle of sports in the 80s and 90s as it produced a large number of Nigeria’s national team footballers, male and female and other world-class athletes.

Okeowo, lamented that this befitting status is fast fading away from the local council that housed Ajegunle as one of its areas.

He said at the weekend during his 100 Days In Office Celebration at the Mariam Academy Primary School, Amukoko, Ajegunle, that: “It’s sad that the local council that used to produce world-class footballers and athletes in other sports for Nigeria is gradually losing its identity due to lack of organisation and dearth of sporting facilities in and around Ajegunle and it’s environs.

“By quickly arrest this situation, my administration has moved swiftly into action to map out specific strategies to develop more sports facilities, build new ones, and as well concentrate on the development of talents and host more football competitions where talents will be discovered, just as it was the case in Ajeromi/Ifelodun in the progressive years of sports in the area.”

For his 100 days in office celebration as the executive chairman of the local council development area, Hon. Olufemi Akanbi Okeowo, hosted an Under-15 Boys Football Tournament, where 32 public and private primary Schools in the LCDA participated. The final was played on Friday, November 19, 2021, at the Mariam Academy Primary School, Amukoko, Ajegunle, Lagos between Ladipo Primary School and Olumade Nursery and Primary School.

Ladipo Primary School emerged champions after defeating Olumade School 3-1. Ladipo School’s three goals were scored by Abdulazeez Rafiu and Sego Koffi(2), while Olumade School’s lone goal was scored by the team’s goalkeeper, Ayoola Rasak, who also emerged as the best goalkeeper of the competition.

Ladipo School went home with a cash prize of N500,000 as champion, while Olumade School took N250,000 as the first runner up. The third-placed team Victory Primary School went home with a cash prize of N150,000. And fourth-placed team, Oladipo Primary School got N100,000 consolation prize.

The Chairman used the opportunity of the 100 days in office celebration to present 600 free GCE forms to students in public schools in the LCDA.

Okeowo, who is the new Chairman just serving at the beginning of his first term in office also used the opportunity to present a Toyota Hilux vehicle to the Ifelodun Security Movement, for the prevention of crime in the LCDA.
