Okin Biscuits Resumes Production After 17-Year Shutdown

Okin Biscuits has taken a major step toward returning to the Nigerian market, with biscuits rolling off one of its rehabilitated production lines at the Offa factory for the first time in 17 years.

The company announced the milestone on its official Facebook page on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, describing it as a significant moment in the brand’s comeback journey.

According to Okin Biscuits, the trial run was held on Monday, August 25, 2026. It marked the first time in nearly two decades that the line became operational again.

The company said the entire production line had to be rebuilt after cables, frequency drives, contactors, motors and other electronic components were stolen during the period the factory was shut.

“This was a technical TRIAL RUN – NOT a product trial,” the company stated. “At this stage, we were not concerned about colour, appearance or achieving the final Okin recipe. The objective was simple: Can we bring this line, silent for 17 years, back to life? And we did!”

In another major development, Okin Biscuits said IBEDC officially connected the factory to a 33KVA Band A electricity grid on the same day.

Reliable power has been cited as one of the key requirements for full-scale operations to resume.

The company noted that more work is still required before the biscuits return to store shelves.

“There is still work ahead. More testing. More calibration. More rehabilitation. And, of course, getting that familiar Okin taste and quality exactly right before the biscuits return to the market,” it said.

Despite this, the company celebrated the progress.

“The machines are turning. The ovens are firing. The biscuits are beginning to roll out again. One step at a time. Okin is coming back.”

Okin Biscuits was once one of Nigeria’s most popular biscuit brands, known for its distinct taste. The Offa-based company shut down operations 17 years ago due to a combination of operational and infrastructural challenges.

With the successful trial run and reconnection to the national grid, the company says it is moving closer to restoring production and making the brand available to consumers again.
