The President General of notable Niger Delta socio-cultural group, the Orashi National Congress (ONC), Amb. Emeni Ibe (JP AP), has commended the Chairmen of Ahoada East and Ahoada West Local Government Areas for presenting their budgets, describing the move as a proactive step in the right direction.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday, Amb. Ibe noted that timely budget presentation reflects a commitment to governance and accountability at the grassroots level. He however, emphasized that the true value of the budgets lies in their effective implementation, urging the local government authorities to ensure that the proposed projects and financial plans translate into tangible benefits for the people.

“The local government remains the closest tier of government to the people, and it is at this level that citizens should feel the direct impact of governance,” he stated.

Despite the commendation, the ONC President General expressed deep concern over the growing influence of political godfathers across the Orashi region. According to him, excessive interference by these power brokers is undermining development and causing significant financial setbacks to local governments.

He called on relevant authorities to take decisive steps to eliminate the highhandedness of godfathers, stressing that such practices hinder transparency, accountability, and the effective delivery of democratic dividends.

Amb. Ibe reaffirmed the commitment of the Orashi National Congress to continue advocating for good governance, fiscal responsibility, and people-oriented leadership in the region.
