Orashi National Congress Condemns Rivers Assembly’s Actions & Calls For Peace
The Orashi National Congress (ONC) has expressed deep disappointment over the actions of the Rivers State House of Assembly (RSHA) in locking out the Executive Governor of Rivers State from the Assembly Quarters.
The President General of ONC, Amb. Comr. Emeni Ibe (JP, AP), described the move as childish and counterproductive, questioning whose interests the lawmakers were truly representing.
“What we should be thinking about is the overall interest of the Rivers people. When the budget is passed, the Rivers State House of Assembly will also be beneficiaries of it. The interest of the state should come first,” Amb. Emeni Ibe stated.
He further emphasized that if the state is destroyed today, there will be no state for future generations, calling on all stakeholders to put Rivers State above personal or political interests.
Amb. Emeni Ibe acknowledged the recent Supreme Court judgment, which the Governor has already assured he will implement without delay. He also urged all parties to take the address of the President of Nigeria seriously as a pathway toward resolving the crisis and ensuring the development of Rivers State.
Reaffirming the Orashi National Congress’s commitment to peace, Amb. Emeni Ibe reminded all political actors that neither the Governor nor the members of the Assembly would hold their seats forever.
“We must build a state that will stand the test of time. No one remains in power forever. Let us act wisely and work towards a united, peaceful, and prosperous Rivers State,” he added.
The ONC has continued to advocate for dialogue, unity, and responsible governance to protect the interests of the Rivers people and ensure a stable future for the state.
